Less than a week to go…
Things are really heating up, or cooling down, depending on how you look at it 😉
We officially leave for Furano, Japan in less than 1 week. This weekend we’ll be finalising the testing of our film gear as well as packing and sorting our snowboard gear and doing the all-important weigh of our wheelie bags to ensure we’re within our luggage allowance.
The yen has dropped slightly since we did a foreign currency conversion last week. It’s great that we locked the better rate in, but otherexpenses like accommodation and lift passes may take a hit if there is no improvement in the next week.
We’ve uploaded a whole heap of snowboarding videos from previous years as well as photos going way back to the first trip to Canada in 2001. You can check them out here. The Canada photos were taken with a 1.2 Megapixel Sony Mavica digital camera that took floppy disks. It’s pretty amazing to see how far digital technology has come!
We’re also finalising travel insurance this week. We’re going through a company called http://www.ski-insurance.com.au that will cover us for all our on mountain action as well as the normal things like luggage loss and hospital cover.
We wanted to get the word out about what we’re doing in Furano this year. As well as the Koala Club, Mogul the Kangaroo and King of the Mountain, part of our promotion includes some cool rubber wristbands that you can check out in the gallery. We also have t-shirts that you will see us getting around in. All these things are designed to make the documentary and the trip fun, to use as ice-breakers when meeting people and to get the word out about our website, documentary and what we’re all about.
We’ll be in Tokyo on Friday 29th January and Friday 12th February.
If you live in Tokyo or will be there on these dates and want to be part of the documentary, then comment on this post with your details and we can organise to meet up on either of the Friday nights for some karaoke and filming fun.
If you’re not going to be in Tokyo, but have any good recommendations for a karaoke bar we should visit in Tokyo, then leave a comment with the details. We’d appreciate any good recommendations. 🙂
Closing out the week, we are also finalising some interviews with people that will be included in our documentary. If you want to get involved or know somebody who would – shoot the an email with a link to our blog, and leave us a comment. We’ll get stratight back to you to start organising a time and place to hook up and chat.
Dude, I want to see some pics of you getting some ‘rare-air’ on those Japanese slopes.
Awesome guys! Can’t wait to hear and see more of your adventures!
😉
Hey Guys,
Got your flight delay update – nothing worse! But at least you have arrived safely and on snow!
Keep the videos coming, the snow looks gorgeous..

Hey Fee,
Yeah, main thing is we got here safely and we’re ripping up the pow. Uploading more videos now, we’ll keep you posted.
Cheers,
Leroy and Iao.
Awesome post! You have a great blog, absolutely the best Ive read so far. I will be looking forward to your next entry. Thanks again.
Awesome site, I will be adding your feed to my google reader.
Looks like I didn’t do as good a job as I hoped avoiding holidays when I booked my upcoming trip. I’ll arrive in Japan Sep 20th, which turns out to be Respect for the Aged Day, closely followed by the Autumn Equinox on Sep 23rd. Both are listed as National Holidays.
I am planning my first trip to Japan, and will be flying into Osaka (Itami) and flying out of Tokyo. We plan on visiting several areas like Kyoto and Hiroshima. My question is should we spend the first night in Osaka, or is there a close and convenient option that would be a better choice. Like Nara.
